Mary Mettias aka Vine Leaf is an incredibly gifted artist that combines hazy ambient landscapes with well written songs of her recent Ep entitled My Reflection. The five songs on this EP are heartfelt pieces that spew with not only melancholy but beauty. She doesn't have a typical “girly” voice. It covers a couple of octaves and is undeniably unique as it has a haunting quality that creates a symbiotic relationship with the music. The first song on the album is called “Through The Vine” which combines clean guitar, drums, bass and her vocals - all of which have a fair amount of reverb on them. It creates a hypnotic effect as if the music is being heard in a dream. You could make comparisons to a band like Mazzy Star. “Beautiful Mystery” is indeed beautiful as the song slowly sprawls across ethereal guitar melodies, vocal harmonies and subtle drums. Its hard not to fall into a trance before the song ends. “My Reflection” continues with the same kind of vibe but also felt like the most accessible song while “Letting Go” coincides with how the music sounds. The album ends with “Lift Me Out” which is the most uplifting song on the EP. It still sounds atmospheric and ethereal but also contains a cathartic element that wasn’t apparent in some of the other songs. It was a good way to end the album which gave it a sense of closure. Overall, there isn't to much I could say I didn’t enjoy about this album. The production is great, the songs are well written and above else her music feels original and inspired
