Thursday Bloom is an artist from Adelaide, Australia who creates emotional texture and imagery through the ambient landscapes of sound that he creates. What is very interesting about this artist is that if you are a fan you won’t have to wait very long as he is releasing 12 EP’s over the 12 months of 2013. Apparently he started releasing music to the public when he accepted the Weekly Beats 2012 challenge. I’m pretty excited he accepted this challenge because if his future releases are anything that resembles his latest entitled Quiet Fire he has earned himself a fan.

The first song “Haze” starts in the jungle with subtle distant voices in the background that eventually are blended with violins or violas. There are also random cracks and pops that are reminiscent of a phonograph playing a record as the string become the focal point. The song is filled with melancholy and nostalgia and bleeds into a song called “Sunshine” which has a piano part that sounds similar to a Sigur Ros song (from their second full length EP Sigur 3) until the piano dissolves and strings and white noise start to prevail. The closing number “A Quiet Fire in the Heart” continues with strings as the focal point as the melody starts off dark and gives way to some uplifting emotions as a higher part is introduced. This is a thought provoking EP that provides orchestral ambiance over its 24 minutes. The best part is I get to listen to more next month and then the month after that and so on until all 12 EPs are released.
