Sometimes I'm suddenly struck with the question: "How does one review music?" It usually happens when I'm confronted with bands like The Tickturds, who make stupidly cool garage rock that's "raw" and "energetic" and "immature" and no these guys don't do anything different to the garage rock genre but who cares, music is supposed to be celebratory.

And these guys celebrate hard as hell like on the opener "Fire Inside" with its fast guitars, ratchet drumming and there's a bass in there that you can't hear immediately but once you pick up the rhythm you can't get it out of your head until the next track "Are You With Me?" that does a profound emulation of 80s hardcore and woah.

All of a sudden I realize the main vocalist sort of sounds like David Peel and this opinion is reinforced with the opening cuts of noise on "Start Again," which is about as refined as you could expect from a group calling themselves The Tickturds but it's all good because this is music; this is just a group of fellas jamming out and if you recall The Sonics you have a good idea about the spirit these guys channel, or perhaps they dwell in 80s territory where Black Flag LPs reigned supreme because it certainly sounds like it on "Squid" with its schizo guitar work and terrifying drumming and my breathing is becoming a bit more rapid and all of a sudden I realize this EP is only four tracks long as the feedback crawls back into the cave that seems to thankfully, forever, spawn bands like this.
