It’s Saturday. What better thing to do with your time than visit the Freakshow. That’s just what The Saturday Freakshow invites you to do (on any day of the week) on Suicidal Holiday. The man behind the “freakshow” is Randall Pike, and he is a one-man-band bringing us everything from guitar, bass, drums, vocals and he even mixed the entire collection of songs. The EP is whole-heartedly produced with a cohesive indie-pop punk sound that has an interesting and mysterious, freaky sideshow persona to it.

The opening track on the album is titled “Bloody Rainbows,” and begins with a flighty guitar riff and a steady drum pattern. Before you know it, the vocals begin to lead you on a strange yet wildly entertaining journey through Route 66 during a tangerine dream. This vibe is perfectly embodied by the psychedelic lyrics that go in circles seemingly leading nowhere in particular; “Cancer agent, get your gun, the only one. Seven miles underground, drowning in a makeup fire, tap the angels…. bloody rainbows, sick and tired.”

“Strawberry Dream” is yet another psychedelic trip that begins with a harsh, somewhat distorted guitar intro and then the lyrics, “What do you know, the people are slow, do what they want, they do what they’re told,” incite us with rebellion. This song has an awesome seditious vibe to it and the insane guitar shredding really makes this a head-banger and one to blast in your room on those “f__ the world” days.

There is definitely a very distinct sound to Suicidal Holiday. The vocals from the artist are one of a kind and really put his unique staple on all of the tracks. I enjoy the concept behind the album as well; it’s a tripped out freaky “holiday” through a hellish yet entertaining world, and back, and all the while you’re jamming out to this enjoyable weird indie rock to keep you going. The album is well produced and a great listen for anyone interested in punk/indie rock.
