I had a lot of fun listening to The Echo Echo Echoes self-titled album The Echo Echo Echoes. Summer is on its decline now (only a month and two weeks until the first day of fall), and The Echo Echo Echoes nine-track record is just what you need to ride it on out (preferably on a surfboard). The band’s Bandcamp web page info starts off with “music for a beach day!” which I find perfectly kitsch and extremely fitting. They’re not hiding the fact that they make summer music. And Paul, the band’s bassist, so wonderfully describes the album as being “reminiscent of your childhood at the beach, kissing your first fling, boogie-boarding and having fun.” The Echo Echo Echoes initially began as a solo project for the band’s drummer and lead vocalist Collin. His friends kept egging him on about creating music and he eventually made a post on Craigslist and discovered Paul and Devin, their guitarist. “We’ve been like peas in a pod ever since,” said Devin. “Our hope is to sign to a label when we finish this record and start on number two, and get solid touring done over the next year.” “Surfer Girl” the third track and official single couldn’t be any more Southern California. The intro has seagulls for God’s sake and there’s a sample of waves crashing and moving around behind a great combination of sun-drenched guitar. Stand out tracks include “Surfer Girl,” “Ocean’s Calling” and “Polaroids.” “Polaroids” is that perfect indie track that would work on any summer playlist every season. And “Ocean’s Calling” probably gives some of the best sunset-on-the-beach imagery out of the entire record. What I love about The Echo Echo Echoes is the simple charm of the band’s aesthetic. Their album and single covers are inviting, colorful and describe the records to a tee. Two guys, one girl, three instruments and a whole lot of summer sun to soak up. Become A Fan
