The Bomb Shelter is a young band out of Tacoma, Washington and they have just released a three-track EP titled On Our Way. The sound that the members of the band manage to create is a kin to edgy rock bands like Deftones and Circa Survive. From the beginning, you are drawn in by the deep currents of the melodies and vocals; they are revealing while being both light and dark at the same time. The band’s first live show awarded them with the winning title at a battle of the bands, which is a triumph that tries true throughout the album.
The first song on the ep is called “Alivia,” it is very compelling from the beginning; a steep driving ethereal sound starts off the song that is both appealing as well as very confusing. The sounds of the guitar slowly build before it is effortlessly conjoined by the soothing voice of the lead singer. Then after the first bridge and some elongated vocal notes passes, the percussion and hardcore guitar riffs settle in. The song is a lengthy eight minutes long. The second song “Conversations,” is a bit more mellow from the get-go, yet there is a steady melody to catch your attention, the sound is similar to bands like Incubus, and Band of Horses. The lyrics describe a love story and the chorus is very passionate and highly dramatic like the story that it tells. The last song on the album that shares the same title, has a sober yet upbeat persona to it that really solidifies the overall sound that the band gravitates to. It is a bit unfortunate that there are only three songs on this EP. The sound can be classified as heavy indie rock or even experimental rock. The sound of the album is very colorful and all of the members of the band contribute immensely to the overall sound. Quality over quantity is what showcases in this EP release.
