Concept albums love ‘em or hate ‘em but they require some attention from the listener to be appreciated. Taylor Page recently released an EP entitled Seamless Sea, which weaves a dense narrative. Page sums it up by saying; “A man leaves his love at the shore to pursue his dream of sailing the sea. Along the way he realizes what he truly loves more than sailing but finds himself shipwrecked. While deserted, he becomes crazy falling in love with an imaginary mermaid. Realizing he is going crazy he 'Sets Adrift' on a man-made raft into the 'Seamless Sea’.”
Musically, Page is a gifted guitarist and songwriter who writes tunes that fall somewhere between pop and new age. There is something about his voice that screams commercial viability. Some of it is because of the way it is produced as well as his delivery. The first song “Inspired (Inspired from Mark Cison)” mixes several acoustic guitars, bass, keys and drums. He creates a soothing, smooth concoction of sounds as his voice sits prominently in front of the mix. It’s a well put together tune that immediately showcases his talent as a songwriter. “A Song For Your Travels (feat. Aly Fastuca)” is another well produced song and introduces more bongos into the mix as well as a very good vocal performance from Aly Fastuca. Her voice brought some dynamics as well as versatility to the song. “Luna and a Lighthouse (Concept Version)” is a solid song with one of Page's most inspired vocal performances while “Love Like the Ocean” may appeal to the broadest demographic audience. Page has some decent chops. The songs sometimes felt a bit too commercial but overall I appreciated his talent and attention to detail.
