Spells consists of one man wonder Noah G. Prado.  His sound is heavily influenced by such bands as My Bloody Valentine, Elliott Smith and RadioHead. When Prado is not composing music for Spells, he plays drums and sings for GhostNote. He used to play drums for The Red Robot and History Invades.  Prado has a rich musical background that’s highlighted with Spells. 

Spell’s album The Be Colony is still under-construction. Therefore, the evolution of it has not completed.  The Be Colony may change its musical direction before the official release date. However, at the moment, it’s a very rock alternative album. The three current tracks on The Be Colony create a dark, haunting atmosphere. 

All the songs feel like a continuation of the same story. A story about a journey to overcome personal struggles, demons and memories. Even “What Do You Want,” which is a cover of a song by Chris Miller, fits like it was written exclusively for this album. The best of the three songs is “Hangman.” The song has a catchy chorus and private poetic lyrics. He utilizes warm beds of white noise and very catchy  vocal melody which draws you in.The complexity of the lyrics is one of the biggest strengths of The Be Colony. They showcase Prado’s storytelling gifts. 

Spell’s The Be Colony has some room for improvement. For example, without the lyrics sheets, the lyrics are almost unrecognizable at some points in the songs.  The album also lacks a lot of instrumental variety. However, Spells has a lot of potential. With some adjustments, The Be Colony could become a memorable rock album.
