Sometime Yesterday is a young indie-pop band from Visalia, California. They write catchy pop songs that sound similar to bands like The Artic Monkeys and Silver Sun Pickups. Their latest album When? contains a number of solid songs that, while not groundbreaking, create a good foundation for the band to build upon. Even though the production could be improved at times, the songwriting is good enough to shine through and be pretty impressive as is their musicianship. There are times where they just rock out extremely hard like the guitar-driven track “Gopher Holes” which contains a creative guitar solo and pounding drums. Other songs such as “I think I’m Falling” are acoustic ballads that take their feet off the distortion peddles. The band is best when they rock out on pop songs like “Lies” which are fun songs that I’m sure their female fans will be swooning over when they play live. This is a solid start for a band that has a lot of potential to grow and appeal to a wide audience.
