As my first listen to Silver Shields was through Gary Crowley from BBC Introducing London, all I could think was, this could only be good. I'm not quite sure what it is about hearing a new batch of music on the radio, but I feels as if that's how it was always meant to be. I may not be making any sense but Silver Shields can only confirm the psychedelic presence that is fairly visible to our naked ears. Consisting of Darrell Carter (vocals and guitars), Rob Baker (drums and percussion) and James Marino (synth and bass), these guys are throwing out the freak-beat noise that constructs a chameleon of possible outcomes. While some bands can be too fuzz heavy, or attack the synth in a monstrous way, Silver Shields leads with “Voodoo Summer,” under a black light of righteous contradiction. What I loved was in the description of their six-song album, one word was 'druggy.' And I have to say, why is this not used more often. Besides the obvious usage of the word, it actually sums up perfectly the feelings you receive as you continue on this listening tirade - that climatic feeling of exact knowledge, dragging their guitar chords far enough north, acting as a shielded murmur. Their song "Dark Days," is an off beat, darker nod to tomorrow that may be more or so less expansive than we let on. Silver Shield's influences are far and wide, as well as close knit. But you can't base a band solely on who they listen to. You take from the intimate creation of music that they've given you to listen to. This band along with Chris Frost expertly mixed and mastered their own music which is somewhat of an anomaly when working with your own material. Since we live way over across the great pond, be on the lookout for these guys coming stateside soon. I wouldn't be surprised if their voodoo ritual would be gifted the medal of a martyr. Their music is an honest crossover of haze, riddled, fanatic freedom that is what music is supposed to be all about. The album is called Silver Shields by Silver Shields and you would be sorely mistaken if you didn't listen.
