Italian singer/songwriter Marco Perfetti is a Boston artist with a great ear and some tasty jams. Perfect Mark is his musical playground where Perfetti incorporates his stylings into alternative rock, dance and even funk. After over 10 years of intense musical activity including winning national competitions like the Tour Music Fest, and participating in Italian X-Factor, Perfetti headed stateside upon the wings of a Berklee scholarship. This current project features Perfetti’s original songs in collaboration with musicians from Brazil, Korea, United States, Italy and Portugal. Perfetti has had a very successful beginning and scored a few strokes of luck, but it is his hard work and attention to quality songwriting that has given his band a solid Boston following, so much so that Perfect Mark is set to perform at the Canadian Music Week Festival this year in Toronto. Flesh & Voice naturally revolves around Perfetti’s incredible vocal ability and gift of arrangements. The album is equally powerful as it is intimate thanks to the musician’s sense of balance in song dynamic and structure. If need be, the style could be boiled down to pop rock, but in the sense that pop rock was a fulfilling palette of artists such as Tonic, Incubus, and Fair to Midland. And amidst it all is what sounds at first like a wrong turn – a cover to the Ne-Yo hit "Closer,” surprisingly arranged as a rock ballad. It works. Of course, this is all supported by the work of high class, high talent musicians so there’s really no way you can go wrong especially with Perfetti’s versatility at the mic. “Light and Water” is the most folk sounding while “Footprints” lays down the classic rock. “World Inside” starts out like a ballad and shifts into a chugging rocker that fills out wonderfully and ends as a well-rounded track. The album closes with “Play Our Days” and it seems like a bit of a downer initially, but the chorus crescendos and things go from dark to light despite still sitting in a melancholy key. Flesh & Voice is an artful collection any way you slice it. For those looking for more substance and integrity in their contemporary music, Perfect Mark hits the mark.
