Seattle based band Out On The Streets releases their refreshing and indie-inspired debut full-length album Take A Chance On A Ghost. With this release, the band has created quite a buzz in their hometown and has been busy going on tours with other artists and bands. Other well-known bands that I am reminded of while listening to their new album are Spoon, Real Estate, Young the Giant and Architecture in Helsinki.
The opening track “Spark a Fire” really has that inspirational communal vibe and the anchoring lyrics “let’s spark a fire in us,” repeat over and over again toward the closing of the song and I can just imagine a bunch of muses prancing around a large bonfire. There is nice usage of triangles and a tambourine that also add to this overall effect.
While listening to this release, I get visions in my head similar to those of films like of “The Life Aquatic” and “Moonrise Kingdom.” The track “Dance Awkwardly” has a sweet melodic vibe to it and it’s that perfect track to listen to while being in a crowd but having the ability to escape to your own inner-world, through channeling the upbeat melody of the song. The song titled “Love Affair” starts off with a funky tapping noise and then the melody begins as do the lyrics, “you’ve got the sexy eyes, the kind that hypnotize.” Going along, the song has a very upbeat persona to it and can be classified as pop rock but has vibes of country swing music and just makes me want to square dance or something weird like that.
The songs within Take A Chance On A Ghost are all very sing-song-y and have a positive vibe all together that make the release a pleasant and inspiring listen. The songs also have a sense of humor and really give the listener something different they can relate to on every track. It is a successfully produced release and anyone into indie music will enjoy listening.
