Night Radio, a band straight out of Australia presents us with this honest (and sometimes brutally honest) album titled Telluric. This is one of their many studio production albums made by the artists of Night Radio; vocalist Darrell Archer and producer Tony Dupe. This particular album was released in 2006 and their first album was released in 2000. The album at hand makes up a beautiful collection of acoustic-like songs with a country and folk feel.

Every track on the album has a unique storyline behind it and throws the generic feelings out of the window and actually constructs feelings through relaying a specific situation, some positive, while others present the simple realities and misfortunes of life. The opening song, “Black Clouds Appear” describes the tragic story about a wife losing her husband. Another song “Climb A Tree,” is about the lesson of simply growing up, the chorus sings, “I could be wild and free but the young boy has to learn to climb a tree.” The song is also accentuated by the warming tones of a harmonica.

Of course there are also songs about love; the song “The Colour Of The Sea” is about the random coincidences of life that happen to produce such beautiful collisions, like the discovery of a new love that unknowingly came from far just to finally meet you. The song is dotted with a trancelike piano chord and the lyrics “love brought her here” build a smooth lullaby to the ode of finding a soul mate. Another, “Since We Parted” is about the more sour notes of love, the song describes reminiscing about an old lover and deciding to finally discard those tired memories.

Overall the album is a smooth acoustic lullaby with intriguing stories to capture anyone listening. Each song paints a colorful picture that is one in a million. The vocalist has a naturally rough yet gentle tone to match the organic sounds behind each song. It is simple music to enjoy and has an optimistic depth to it.
