Neuron Flare is project located in Bristol VA that just released an EP entitled Stasis. The whole EP is about three and a half minutes long and consists of just guitar. It is in some ways a demo which attempts to grasp a couple of fundamental aspects of shoegaze. There really isn’t too much too say about this EP other than the songs don’t go anywhere and are really like disconnected fragments that have yet to be formed into a song. Even the volume from song to song is dramatically different which has you reaching for the volume knob.
The first fragment of sound is called “Neon” and last about thirty two seconds. To sum it up it's a distorted guitar playing root notes. It abruptly stops and while could be a cool beginning for a song doesn't go anywhere. The second song is a couple of dbs softer and is sole guitar playing a couple of chords. It’s not a bad riff but as before it doesn't go anywhere. It stops at a minute and thirteen seconds in which out much fore warning. The third songs "Flutter" is about 7 dbs softer than the first song and seems to get softer as it progress. Once I turned my stereo up to about 11 I was able hear to faded delays and guitar melodies that were somewhat similar too Windy And Carl. The EP concludes with "Ringing Ears" which longest track on the EP lasting a whole minute and thirty two seconds long. The musician uses a similar distortion and tone as the first track. He plays a simple riff which actually had some promise if there were some elements in the mix. The simple fact is that there is barely enough material here to properly review. Whoever is behind the project should try and build upon the riffs they come up with. I would love to her some vocals, percussion, even a couple of changes would be appreciated. As it stands right now it seems as this project is simple ideas that need to be built upon.
