Lily pads floating in a pond are pretty much the perfect album art for Victoria Water Lilies by Nesrin Sen. Sen is an artist who creates tranquil music that creates a similar effect to looking at a peaceful pond with floating lilies. Her music combines jazz, pop and even hints of new age that will most likely raise the serotonin levels in your brain.  

It’s possible that the music might put you to sleep if you had a long day but is quite enjoyable on a Sunday morning with a cup of Joe. There aren't too many artists making this type of music in this day and age so it was refreshing  to hear someone who wanted to meld somewhat unlikely genres.

Victoria Water Lilies is a ten-song album in which there are a number of highlights. “Come True” starts with light percussion and even lighter piano that serves as a canvas for Sen to sing upon. She delivers her lyrics softly as if she is holding on to each word.  The song is one of the most jazz-inspired numbers on the album.

“Victoria Water Lilies” reminds of something you would hear in a coffee shop in France. The song is delicate and frail as if the slightest breeze could knock it over. It also contained one of the catchiest guitar riffs that supported Sen’s voice.“Honey Bee” is the most memorable song on the album. It’s a meaty song with a good amount of swing and energy. The album closes with an intricate instrumental piece that is plucked on the guitar called “Life.”

Victoria Water Lilies is a solid album but also is the type of music you kind of have to be in the mood for. It’s probably not something you are going to want to pop in at a dance party unless its a remix.
