Myke and a Mic is Mychal Clements, LA artist and producer. Escape EP is an electronic rock piece that walks the line of 80’s pop and 2000’s happycore. It’s essentially a collection of short stories/vignettes, including varied groups of society, from a cultic group of survivors, to a desperate couple hoping to stay alive. And this is during a Zombie apocalypse. Stay with me now, it gets good. Additionally, when the album is released, check out the eBooks that support each track with their respective short story. The album sounds like Relient K teamed up with Owl City. The auto tuning could be left out, but it’s attached at the hip to any group that’s seeking electronic merit. It has a distinct quality to it; we’ll just say that. “Escape” – thought I might be listening to All Time Low for a second. But really it’s just a California sound that moves quickly and hits with a sweet grip. The don't run to deep and fit the vibe of the music. He sings "Grab my headphones Sit back Put my feet up just relax Press play And Escape". “Always” is soft pop rock with a techy edge. The prize on this EP is “The Launch.” It has a cute melody on a bright bell set in the beginning, but then it’s gone. The toms pound mysteriously while guitar and flanging tones follow the bell’s motif. Things start to take flight and open up by about the 2:30 mark. It wasn’t quite what I had pictured, but a close mark on the intensity scale. Totally mulligan, the bells are back. I’m in new appreciation for this arrangement. Elementally, it’s Clement’s best work for the EP. This song alone is worth the attention. I’d keep the look out for more of Myke and a Mic in the future. A three-song effort will surely be the beginning to more work and it’s a safe bet that with some more experience and teamwork, he’ll rise above in the scene.
