Mark Turner's Made For Us is a set of three songs that transport the listener back to a simpler time. There is no over-done music or special effects. It is just a magical combination of emotionally filled lyrics and naturally sounding vocals.
“Again and Again” is the type of song that the listener finds themselves coming back to, over and over. It just fits so many different stages in one’s life. It could be a gentle love story for that first love you hope to reconnect to one day or even a song explaining the love between parent and child. It is universal and a simple unconditional love. The best part of the lyrics is that it is open to the story the listener adds to it. Turner's own emotions come out in such a gentle way I found myself restarting the song because I didn't want it to end. “Kiss Me Now” was more of a sweet love song with a slightly silly twist. It seemed like something you would find perhaps in an old movie with the heart throb gently teasing his love interest. It was playful, innocent and not overly done. The musical background added the perfect balance on whimsy. “Made For Us” ties up the set nicely with another timeless piece. The pace was a little faster but it again feels like something from a lost era. The theme was something most could see themselves in, waiting for something you know is just right. It is a gentle reminder to slow down to enjoy things, even if they aren't exactly what we expect. The only thing I did not like about this set was there were only three songs which felt like an appetizer; I found myself wanting more. I wanted to know where this story went. I enjoyed the vocals and the styling. It felt organic and emotional yet also open for my own interpretation. Turner is a talent and am anxious to hear more of music.
