Madeleine - vices
London based artist Madeleine brings us her first recorded album, Vices. From the beginning the album is filled with sounds of noir pop and alternative indie vibes. The songs have a European appeal and there is sophistication behind the production. Overall, Vices brings a unique sound that is not often heard in the pop music world.
The opening track on the album, “Neon Machine” seems like it should be blasting out on the beach in St. Tropez, it has a very light yet pleasing upbeat tempo to it. Madeleine really emulates the sound of the new era of experimental pop music. A track with a bit of a rougher edge is “You’re Never Gonna Change;” the song starts off with a gritty electronic synth, but then is surprisingly accentuated by Madeleine’s super sweet voice that leads the song and harmonizes with the intriguing beat.
The track “Can’t Give It Up” is a more dramatic song with a somewhat low-tempo pop vibe to it. The lyrics dive deep but the chorus is still light and uplifting; “I’m in too deep and this love is tainted.” As the song progresses the lyrics and chorus become contagious.
Throughout each song there is a pleasant balance of interesting effects and melodies. Madeleine’s voice is very successful according to the sound she is singing with. The lyricist does a great job at creating catchy and pleasing songs that are well produced. This is a great group of songs to be played by the pool or even at a dimly lit Euro-inspired lounge.
