Love Jupiter is a Brooklyn quartet that delivers up a thunderous portion of hyper-aggressive rock that fuses elements of metal and progressive rock.

Massive guitar riffs and thick bass chords populate their self-titled album Love Jupiter. Sometimes I get a Tool vibe and other times I pick up on Sound Garden elements. Whatever influence I think Love Jupiter is trying to work in, it ALL sounds good. For example: "Prince of Wales" delivers searing energy and excellent drumming that goes toward creating a particularly affecting ballad. "I Told You So" expertly juggles Black Sabbath-inspired dramatics with glam rock-like hooks. The comparably more restrained "Wake Up The Kids" is just as heavy but the strength of the composition is spread out, and there even some genuinely quiet moments that offset the burst of energy that reels back in your attention.

Personal favorites include: "Temptress," the best track on the album, but sadly the last one on the list. Nirvana-styled guitar work with the hypnotic verse, "Temptress, Mistress, I cannot forget your kiss." It is another one of the slower songs on the album, and as such one of the more distinctive. "Love Makes You Cry" also gets my full attention with the multi-vocal harmonies wailing over an electric riffed tuned in desperation. Love Jupiter rely on the heavy stuff, but they're so good at pulling it off it's not even an issue!

And that's my main enjoyment of the album, the huge frikken riffs, man. Nine tracks of some of the best ideas to hit hard rock in the last several years are on Love Jupiter's debut. This is a perfect example where I'd rather have someone listen to the album than read the review. I can throw out comparisons all day, but in the end, Love Jupiter is trying something new, in that they're rock purists who eschew the whimsical love crap that seem to permeate the radio waves. If these guys get their way, we could be looking at a serious 90s hard rock resurgence, which may be needed right now.
