There’s a trend I have been noticing with faith-based bands whether they are Creed or a band from Alabama who has less than two hundred Facebook likes. They all have great production. Forget about thin guitars or undefined vocals these guys have will have recording quality that can rival a U2 album. This is the case and point with the recent EP simply titled EP by Lightfall. There is no denying whether you dig the music or not that the quality is stellar. Lightfall does have some qualities that you tend to think of when you think of a faith-based rock band. The vocalist has that voice that somehow seems to be ubiquitous amongst the community. It’s commercial accessible, not particularly distinct but there is no denying that he has a good voice. His voice usually inhabits melancholy while also sounding somewhat hopeful. Lightfall is essentially an alternative/ rock band that is comparable to a band like Coldplay. The songs go grandiose for the most part and strive for cathartic peaks that feel religious. They make songs about God for Pete’s sake. It would be weird if they didn't make “huge” sounding songs. They start with a catchy song “Promise Of The Father.” You don’t have to be religious to enjoy the vocal hooks and guitar riffs. It reminded me of the band Doves. “For All” scales back the rock in favor of a pop-based balled. The band is a bit more melancholy on this one. “Walk On Water” was an unexpected turn as the band experiments with atmosphere and electronic elements instead of a guitar-based song. I thought it was a successful attempt. The band closes with an epic entitled “Saviour Of My Soul.” They reach for the heavens in this one as they close with a bang. You don’t have to be religious to enjoy their tunes but it definitely helps. Lightfall is a band with a sound that you will have most likely have encountered before and will probably know if it’s your cup of tea within the first minute of the first song,
