Hantasi is the solo project of Alexander Matulionis. His new album We Should Probably Go Home successfully translates abstract concepts heavily imbued with nostalgia and twists them into an unnerving experience most likely not like anything you have ever heard. If I had to compare the feeling I was getting while listening to it, I would say that it was comparable to The Caretaker. According to Matulionis his latest effort reflects the concept of modern neo-civilizations (malls) and throws them into the cycle of natural destruction that takes place over thousands of years (nature taking over man's world). Imagine if you were living in the future and were invited by a lingering soul to take a journey back to the 21st century where you would view a slideshow through the void of time of what it might have looked like. As abstract as this concept seems this was what I was picturing in my head as I was listening.

The album starts with “Old Culture” which begins with what sounds like a field recording of a river. The time is held by something that sounds like a typewriter while scratchy vocals come into the song. The song itself sounds like it is between stations on an am radio. Other songs like “Moving Stairs to Nowhere” may actually just be a field recording. The most chilling song is saved for last where it comes to the edge of insanity. It is not for the faint of heart. The song’s beat was even freaking me out a bit. This album is one of the most unique things I have heard in quite some time and while this is not for everyone I can assure it will earn some fans who will appreciate the avant-garde nature of it.
