Carbondale
self released; 2013

3.7 out of 5

Fiery Crash is project that mixes indie rock, indie folk, dream pop, shoegaze, slowcore, drone and his latest release "Carbondale" these elements are scattered throughout to make absorbing album. There are 14 songs on this album that drift by like a summer breeze yet feel a visceral and nostalgic at times. The album is easy to listen to in a very inviting way. I was picturing a cool, autumn day as I was listening to some of the tracks

The album opens with one of my favorites entitled "every aim" a lightly picked guitar as what seems like a reverse effects drifts into the song. The song then drops with  lightly played drums backed with vocals that are just as light creating plenty of space for the song to breath. The song is unique in that the ending fades away inviting a mogwai-esque guitar pattern while a repeated vocal phrase is sung. The second song "ending highways" picks things up with a couple of distorted guitars. I really like the bridge where it sounds like the guitar is on the verge of breaking in half.  I really enjoyed "half life" which had a unique electronic drum beat that was covered with a layer of white noise from the guitars that hung in the air as dreamy vocals were barely audible within the mix. The album closes with "best birthday" which is a simple song that contains guitars and vocals at the focal point. This album is a nice treat that is eclectic as it is moving.
