Everlasting Light was formed in 2013, a fresh new band from Nancy, France. All of the guys were studying in the same Music Academy and wanted to create your typical pop band, but the varying musical tastes throughout the group came as a fortunate change in direction. Lead guitarist, Clément, proves his worth as an ally of sound design and composition. Their EP Lost Princess was cut within a four-month period that shows the hard work and excitement behind these musicians. Everlasting Light was smart to get their music out when they did because it afforded them the chance to give it a road test and see where they stood while on tour. The crowds were electric and responded very well. Not a bad sign to go off when pursuing your dreams. But, in the interest of Lost Princess, let’s get down to brass tacks. It’s a short ride, but brings a lot of elements to the table. At times you might think, is this the same band? It’s the vocals that tie it all together. “Amazing Race” starts off and at first the guitar tone threw me and I wasn’t sure what to expect. But the big chords and drum hits in the intro quickly made me turn that thought around. This group has some power and is very tight. Nice double kick work as well. The French accent comes out a little more on “Everlasting Light.” Did I mention it sounds awesome? I personally am very involved with the French invasion in hard rock / hardcore and I think they’re up to some very cool things over there. This is a quality song, but it lacks a clear motif that listeners can relate it back to. “Storm” has a nice Chevelle tone in the chugging guitar, a solid riff, and the drums bring a soundscape that’s across the board from chunky funk, slamming half time complete with bashing china cymbals, and pedal to metal burn out. This song borrows from grunge and 80’s metal, but puts a modern and foreign take on it, definitely making for a memorable listening experience. Lost Princess is an eclectic EP that does pigeonhole the band into any specific genre for future releases.
