Droid Daughter is the electronic music project of producer Connor Lepre. In a little under a year he has released his debut album Aches & Tides which was then followed by the Oceanliner EP. The eclectic blends of electronics, samples and synths may bring up comparisons to artists such as Tycho or Flying Lotus. Droid Daughter’s five instrumentals glide along effortlessly. Each song is unique within itself but also works very well as a unified whole.

The album opener “Hampton Roads” has a relaxed, calm atmosphere to it as the sound of waves roll around in the distance. I kept on picturing myself chilling on a futuristic beach being served cocktails by a stereotypical 1950’s robot. Maybe this is because most of the album was written while Lepre was on vacation. The album gets a little more glitched out and dancey with the second song, which occasionally contains samples that you might hear on an Avalanche’s album. It is a really fun track for ADD personalities as the song maxes out on instrumentation and doesn’t like to keep anything static too long. It switches up instrumentation and samples as if they were a bad habit. “Norfolk” is the standout on the album. It contains a surplus of percussive, rhythmic elements backed by a wide variety of bells, synths, samples and god knows what else which could quickly overwhelm the senses. This song reminded me of a less restricted Caribou song. The EP closes with “Roanoke” which is a quirky glitch–hop number that infuses Four Tet type tendencies with a maximalist agenda. This album crams a lot in a short amount of time and contains some great moments that fans of electronic music will enjoy.
