Perhaps influenced by the God of Wine (Dionysus) Dionysia’s latest album Antics is far from drunk. The album showcases smart rhythms and compelling and passionate lyrics brought to us by a group of young musicians hailing from Vermont. Their music on album Antics brings us a soul-inspired pop-rock sound. “Carried Away” is a soulful track with folk connotations. The simple guitar and clapping in the background that acts as the main percussion gives a communal feeling and makes you feel like you are part of something bigger than yourself while listening to the song. The chorus “let’s get carried away,” repeats and becomes infectious as the song progresses. Another catchy song is “Black House.” The style of this song reminds me a bit of popular songs from Sound Garden and Muse. The chorus embodies so much genuine passion inviting the listener to join in and sing the lyrics at the top of their lungs; “What you want is in a big black house, don’t hesitate to break them doors on down." The addition of the “Na na na” at the end of the chorus really seals the deal and makes this song uber contagious. Soon after, the saxophone comes in and adds another element of smooth passion yet keeps the upbeat theme of the song. “What you need is in the big black house, who you love is in the big black house.” This young band has clearly got their head where their passions really lie. The music they create is passionate, genuine, uplifting and overall great music to listen to. The recording quality is of high regard and maintains studio standards. Anyone interested in pop music or pop rock will really enjoy Antics.
