We originally reviewed Analog by David Toma back in August of last year. The album while having a decent foundation had some parts that were unfocused and felt more like ideas then fleshed out concepts. Since than Toma has replaced some of the songs, updating some of the original songs as well as trimming the extra fat from the songs. I’m happy to report Toma’a diligence has not gone unnoticed. Overall, the album feels more fluid; he worked out the kinks when it came to timing and it also feels more cohesive. 

The album starts with the same song as before called “Influx.” It was one of the highlights of the album combining clean piano, and electronic drum beat and whirly lead synths. The song doesn’t deviate much from the tones it introduces and instead tries to win your attention by the hypnotic melodies. I mentioned in my original review that the next track, “Analog,” seemed out of time. Well, in this version I didn’t notice any issues. In fact, the song is a chill, relaxed number, which showcases a warm electric piano that dances for the full duration of the track. 

“Not Responding” takes a hard hitting industrial beat that provides a deep low end for piercing lead synth. Toma goes up and downs scales with the synth before coming toe a breakdown with piano. “Explode” is reminiscent of a Euro club track that mixes elements of glitch. It is a decent thumper that has a lot of energy and seems like a track that the kids would appreciate at 2:00 am at the rave. “Overpowered” is a contorted maze of sine waves creating a disorienting experience while “Monitor” cuts up piano over subdued electric tones. Toma closes with a techno-infused number called “Process.” It a well put together dance song and ends the album with one of its highlights.

Toma going back and improving his album Analog shows that he has passion for not only making his music but for improving it as time passes. I only see good thing to come for Toma if continues to push his abilities.
