Daniel Lorens had a change of heart. Previous to his latest release entitled Smaller Organs he was entrenched in the metal and hardcore scene. Somewhere, somehow he decided this wasn’t working for him and instead he focused his efforts own his on lo-fi productions that are more reminiscent of 1950’s doo-wop and The Righteous Brothers. I can’t but help think how good these songs would be with a better recording. That being said the songs still manage to shine through the DIY recording and make a mark.

The album greets us with “Type of Girl” which made me feel as if I was in the 1950’s at the high school prom. The vocal melody is incredibly catchy with ba-bas in the background they got me ready for the slow dance. “Bottled Lightning” is the second song and doesn’t have the overt 50’s feel of the first but still draws from the same source of inspiration holding true to the lo-fi aesthetic. The last song “Cookie Cutter Heartbreak” is a catchy acoustic ballad that closes the EP. This EP had me yearning for better production at times even though I was happy to discover the songs that were present underneath. I’m looking forward to what Lorens has in store for us on his full-length.
