Since Bermudas, a rock-grunge-punk-pop band, formed in 2010, they've performed at various shows throughout their hometown of Grand Rapids, MI. They headlined the Grand Rapids Lady Fest. They also appeared at the Girls Rock Grand Rapids and the West Michigan Pride Festival. Bermudas consists of guitarist and vocalist Dennielle Russ, bassist Charity Lytle and drummer DezaRae' Russ. Their first EP Visit, released in 2014, contains a variation of sounds, moods, spirits and souls. The album's five tracks tackle universal topics, such as embracing life and fighting personal demons, with seductive catchy beats and lyrics. "Dark Daylight" mimics ‘90s rock bands like Garbage or the Breeders with its instrumental hardness and arrangement. Cascading guitar slither up and down scales. Dennielle Russ has a seductive voice that reminded some what of Kim Gordon. "Habit of Sin" uses a style whose freeness channels the spirit of ‘60s pop tracks. I throughly enjoyed the intricate timing and how they change tim signatures once the chorus hits. The jovial beats of "Chance of Flourish" highlight a life about living in the moment. "Snake Pit" adds drama with its sound and instrumental techniques, including hissing sounds. Russ offers the best vocal performance on "Tea Kettle." The passion in her vocals comes across clearest on that track. The lyrics are one of the biggest strength of Visit although the music is not to be underestimated. They create intrigue, mystery and excitement. However the instruments offer a commendable contribution to the tracks. They steadily blend light and dark beats from one track to the next. Visit entertains listeners from start to finish with its sound and lyrical choices. It's a great introduction to Bermudas, a band ready to leave a mark.
