Accountants self-titled EP  Accountants may not be the best sounding EP you have heard but it has an early demo Guided By Voices charm. I don’t even know who is in the band or how many people are in the band but I can tell that the album was a complete DIY effort recorded a basement somewhere in Chicago.

The first song “I Am a Real Person” is an instrumental piece that starts with a lone gritty guitar caked in an ample amount of reverb. It’s a solid riff that gets enveloped by mostly cymbals and a barely audible kick and snare. I was surprisingly rocking out by the end of the song. 

“Dream” is what you would call the centerpiece of the album. The band has a slight Slanted and Enchanted Era Pavement thing going which is charming.  The sound quality is hard to get past but their nonchalant punk rock ethos makes them pull it off. 

The closer “Nothing To Say” is a sloppy, teenage mess where the singer pretty much repeats the title of the song. He says he has nothing to say for now so lets hope he has something to say later. The band jams out on a couple of riffs like they came right from Turn on The Bright Lights by Interpol.

The demo-type sound quality is hard to get past but the potential for something greater is there.  Accountants still have a long way to go but their heart is in the right place.
