Warren North Interview
Q: The songs on Game of Love are diverse. They are diverse enough that I feel I wouldn’t be able to describe your music in a couple of words. For example “Game of Love” felt like 80’s pop to my ears where as “Break The Mold” fits into a singer/songwriter category. How do you describe your music?
A: People always ask me what kind of music I play and I joke with them and say good. I try to play good music. As a solo artist I like to encompass all of my influences and be real about it. Overall my sound would be pop influenced, but mostly sticking with a retro feel.
Q: What was the creative process like for the four songs? Can you explain how the themes are connected on the EP?
A: When writing this EP I had an idea of what I wanted it to sound like, what I wanted to talk about, and more importantly who I wanted to be. With that being said I went in to the studio with an acoustic guitar and me and my producer hashed it out.
Q: Can you tell us about what instrumentation you compose on? Additionally what did you play on the EP?
A: I always write on an acoustic guitar even the more Rock stuff. This album though had some melodies that were floating around in my head before I even picked up a guitar.
Q: According to your bio you have been playing music since you were a young kid. If I did my math right you are 32 now. What made you come out with your debut EP now?
Yes, I am 32 years young. Haha... I decided to come out with a solo EP now because for the past 15 years I've been in and out of bands as the lead singer. The goal was always trying to be big as a group. I came from a big family so I like the team atmosphere of everyone working together. But that's the problem, most people don't want to put in the same amount or effort. So, I decided to wipe the Slate clean and do things under my own moniker.
Q: You did a video for Cafe I watched numerous times. The production value is excellent. Can you talk about not only the process of making the video but what the reaction has been like since its release?
A: As far as I can tell everyone loves the video for Cafe. It was a lot of fun to make. We rented out this old Diner and tried to get a retro feel but also let everyone question it's modern-day setting. And as for the production turns out my producer's brother does video, so needless to say I had to use him.
Q: Can you tell us what you might have in store for your fans in the further? shows, new album, etc?
A: Right now trying to play out as much as possible and promote the new EP. Probably a video in the works very soon for Game of Love. And hopefully a full length sometime next year.
