A BLAST FROM THE PAST - Veruca Salt Play Martyr's
The dream of the ‘90s was alive on the North side of Chicago on the night of July 27th, 2015 as Veruca Salt graced the stage of Martyr’s on Lincoln Ave. to a small, but enthralled crowd of fans at Studio X gig organized by WXRT-FM and emceed by veteran XRT DJ, Marty Lennertz. It had been quite a stroll down memory lane for Veruca Salt as they spent the past weekend in what was their old neighborhood of Wicker Park before breaking out onto the music scene in 1994 with their debut album, “American Thighs” and that album’s lead single, “Seether”.
While in Chicago, they played Wicker Park fest that was organized by local venue, the Subterranean, and included other great acts such as Charles Bradley & his Extraordinaires
As Lennertz interviewed them, the band talked about their recent reunion after having broken up due to tensions and infighting in 2012. They also talked about the creative process that went into recording their post reunion album, “Ghost Notes”, which was released earlier this year and was their first new record since their 2006 LP, “IV”.
A splendid time was guaranteed for all as Veruca Salt launched into a wild set after finishing up answering Lennertz’s questions, getting the crowd on their feet for songs like “Eyes on You”, “Laughing in Your Sugar Bowl” and their closing number, “Seether”.
It was truly a fantastic evening. Let’s hope they don’t break up again so they came back to Chicago sometime.
