Timi Tamminen Interview
Q: Can you talk about your musical history?
A: I've been playing in various bands since I was about thirteen, starting in the more abrasive realm of experimental rock and having moved towards very different directions since that. I've done a plenty of production work for other underground artists, lately focusing more on my solo career.
Q: The production on your album Timi Alexander was inventive. Can you talk about what tools you are using and your creative process?
A: Right now, my DAW of choice is Logic: I love the workflow it has. I also used analog drum machines for most of the percussive elements. I write melodies and hooks very quickly so most of the time spent on the album went to planning on making it cohesive because of the eclectic influences and sounds present. My creative process in itself varies every time, and I try to consciously approach writing songs from a different angle each time, to get variety in my writing.
Q: What are some of the over arching themes on Timi Alexander?
A: Isolation, the hectic-ness of an average person's daily life, as well as the constantly restless visions transmitted by the global news every day.
Q: Your album combines disparate genres which coalesce in a natural sounding way. Is that something you consider before writing?
A: Quite the opposite: I have to work on making my songs more aligned in terms of genre because I like writing in so many styles. My upcoming second album does a great job at it, because the production will be more polished and streamlined. Yet I want to preserve my own eclectic spirit in the songs.
Q: How do these songs translate live? And do you have a live band?
A: I've been doing the occasional live spots solo; some of the songs suit the live atmosphere better than the others. Having a great live band is a dream but right now I'll be doing things solo, until the right members come along.
Q: What else do we need to know about this project?
A: Keep an eye out, there'll be more music soon...
