The playlist I used to bust out when I was having a dance party contained Daft Punk, Justice, Cold Copy, Rapture and LCD Soundsystem. I thought it was complete. I thought it was all I needed until I recently discovered Mystery Skulls. On his new album Forever he implements heavy club ready beats over some of catchiest vocal hooks I have heard in recent memory.
Take a listen to a track like the "The Future" and you will be infected by his soulful vocals. His delivery is smooth and will give Jamie Lidell a run for his money. A personal favorite on the album is "Fantasy". He is innovative when it comes to using filters and utilizes bass in a similar way that Daft Punk made popular. "Number 1" feat. (Brandy and Nile Rodgers) was another exceptional track that evokes the same feelings you have when you listen to the Jackson 5. The additional vocal work is the cherry on top. Forever is one of those records that you can listen to from beginning to end and you won't have to skip a track. It's money. One thing that seperates Mystery Skulls from a lot of of club thumpers is that there are actual songs behind the awesome music. Strip away the beat and add an acoustic guitar and you would still have a great song. That being said I would not change a thing. |
