FEATURED: SILENT SEASON
I always thought New Age sounded better in theory than in execution. A lot of New Age music often lacks the spiritual connection to nature than I thought would be apparent in the music. I remember listening to Shalabi Effect a couple years ago and thought to myself this is how I always envisioned it.
As much as I liked Shalabi Effect I couldn't find many other artists who were able to seamlessly meld elements of nature and spirituality into music that would resonate with my soul - until now. Enter the Silent Season. Silent Season is a music label that is influenced by the natural surroundings in British Columbia, Canada. On their website it explains that "The sounds of Silent Season grew out of the connection between deep ethereal music and the rain forests of Vancouver Island. A soundtrack to some of the most radiant and aural beauty in the world." After delving into artists such as Yuka , Mindspan and Shaded Explorer I have to say their statement is true. One thing that needs to be mentioned is the reoccuring theme that not only spreads across songs within an album but spreads across artist on the label. The music in one way or another often blends sounds you expect in nature with electronic elements you might expect coming from a digital synth. It's a impressive feat that if in the wrong hands I think could go incredibly wrong. The dichotomy of nature and technolgical is a theme that is more revelvant then ever in our society and the artists on Silent Season are taking it on with eloquence. |
