Q: Can you talk about your history as a songwriter?
A: I began writing songs when I was 15. In the early days they were fairly punk and alternative influenced. As I became more accomplished on my instrument, the music went in a more metal direction. I’ve always tried to focus on catchy melodies and well defined song structures.
Q: What inspired you to make Future Human?
A: It was primarily inspired by my passion for the UAP phenomenon. The record was originally supposed to be fully instrumental, but that changed after I fell down the UAP rabbit hole. I’ve also had experiences of “ high strangeness” that have also pushed me along.
Q: Can you talk about some of the themes?
A: They primarily revolve around the Future Human UAP hypothesis. The track “Demon of Retribution” is a tribute to my favorite horror movie Pumpkinhead.
Q: What is your creative process like?
A: When I compose and perform, it’s similar to Obi Wan Kenobi’s description of using the force. You tap into an ocean of infinite sonic energy. It flows through you, controlling your actions and obeying your commands. My own unique identity influences the outcome of what emerges from that “sonic ocean.”
Q: What was your recording process like? And has it changed over the years? Would you explain some of the tools you use?
A: I recorded this record with my producer friend Ryan Mey at his studio. We recorded the record using Logic. Most of the tracks were recorded DI and we used emulators to shape the tone. Ryan programmed the drums in logic. In the past I used a 16 track digital hard drive recorder. I eventually graduated to DAW’s and used Pro Tools for many years.
Q: What else should we know about your music?
A: This project is a primarily a studio project at the moment, but I wouldn’t be opposed to creating a live lineup if there was a desire for live shows.
