The band Voodoo Motors from Sydney, Australia don’tt have much of resume at this point but the band displays some serious potential on their release SuperNeatO. Their EP is a bit scattered in terms of style but they do pull of what they attempt. That being said the band falls most in line with garage rock. You can make comparisons to Ty Segall and The Strokes but also a lot of 70’s garage rock as well.

The comparisons to The Strokes is most noticeable on the first track “RazorBlade”. I thought the vocals had a Julian Casablancas quality to them and the music sounded similar to The Strokes when they were at their height. Any way you look at the song is catchy and fun. It’s one of those song that stuck in your head and the handclaps were a nice addition.

As the album progressed the styles shift and morph making it evident the band probably hasn’t been together too long. “River Run Through” is another very well written but has more of a White Stripes blues vibe at least some of the time. The verse has a distinct 70’s classic vibe.

The 70’s vibe was even apparent on “Midnight Flight. They implement organ on this song and it works out very well. The vocals are damn good on this song. I really was liking the singing more and more as it seeped into my mind. “The Pines” has a distinct country vibe very much in the way that The Doors would pull off at times. It would be a good song for the first season of True Detective although the song may have been a bit too much fun for that show.

“Shadow Now” was the one misfire and mostly because of the recording quality and production. I’m not sure what was going on here but the it didn’t sound as good as some of the other songs. They close with “Disintegrator” which is fast paced garage rock they definitely has that Ty Segall vibe. Great song  that served as an exceptional closer.

This band with a bit more refining of their sound could appeal to a lot of people. The songs are there now they just need a bit more definition. ​
