Tyler McGinnis is a singer-songwriter from the Pacific Northwest with a new single titled Admiring Ghosts, another track in a series building toward a full-length album this summer. McGinnis is known for story-driven songs performed with a remarkable voice, emphasizing emotional clarity and restraint. Admiring Ghosts is described as "a reflective Americana-leaning track that explores memory, loss, and the quiet ways the past lingers in the present."
McGinnis has been a musician for several years, building his sound through live performance and songwriting that refuses to chase trends, unafraid to examine life’s quieter, heavier moments with honesty and clarity. "Admiring Ghosts" starts with folky acoustic guitar very similar in tone to buskers like Mary Lou Lord. McGinnis sings with the kind of full, friendly and reassuring voice you expect from folk music; a random comparison would be Tom Chapin (Harry's brother). The song is built on "the striking image of a box containing everything we’ve ever lost: old dreams, faded friendships, missed moments." Shortly joined by bass and then a full band, McGinnis provides heart-warming harmonies with chunky strummed rhythms with a cool muted sound to the strings. Though a bit heavy on the bass, the sound quality is great. The second chorus adds claps and foot stomps (and maybe additional harmonies) that really bring the track home. The song's info notes: "Admiring Ghosts leans into understanding: an acceptance that time moves quickly, and that sometimes we find ourselves admiring the very things we can’t get back." It's a near flawless song and bodes well for the full album coming soon!
