Psych rock mixed with a little bit of vengeance is what The Sentinels are pumping out on their latest release Dynamic Ribbon Device. The Sentinels are from Chicago, Illinois and the four members that make up this rock band bring their big-city swag and “dynamic” sounds and rhythms to their second full-length release. 

There’s no way to escape the heavy guitars on this album, every song seems so saturated with syrupy guitar riffs that anyone who loves some good guitars will effortlessly indulge in the seemingly endless supply of guitars and bass within this album. The track “Spanish Device” is a great example of such guitar abundance. Starting the song from the very beginning, the darkened and deepened guitar chords bring you into this high-speed world of revenge and spite; soon the equally heightened vocals give you yet another groove to sink your rugged tires into. 

Following sequence “Girls With Trees For Tattoos” is not as soaked with guitars as the anterior track but there it is still a prominent aspect of the song’s overall profile. On this track I am more affected by the vocals and the percussion and I find the song becomes catchy and moves successfully through different heights and slides slyly through new lows; “…take away the hate, cherish the pain that gives you freedom and wash it away.”

On another note “Seven Bedroom Trailer” literally is a trip to another world within the universe of The Sentinels. Starting off sweet, mysterious and slightly ominous, the song slowly builds with dynamic lyrics and an intriguing guitar chord that loops throughout the song. It reminds me of tracks from bands like Korn and Deftones.

Music found within Dynamic Ribbon Device is suiting to a crowd who digs alternative punk music. The sound moves through several different tones within the confines of this album making it an entertaining listen. Sound quality is commendable and every instrument within the landscape gets its own focal point for full listening pleasure.
