It wasn’t too long ago that The Gallop released an impressive self-titled four song EP. Less than a year later the band is back with another EP entitled Tall Tale Tellers. The band provides six songs this time around and they are certainly heading in the right direction. The Gallop is displaying all the characteristics you want from an indie rock band. They have an original yet accessible sound. It is catchy but doesn’t veer towards corny mainstream material you would hear on your local FM station.

Besides the mastering Tall Tale Tellers is self produced and sounds great. There aren't many things more impressive than a band that writes good music and knows how to record it.

The Gallop knows how to open up an EP and Tall Tale Tellers is a testament to that. The whole band is in sync and finds a great groove reminiscent to something you might hear from a band like Phoenix. It won’t take much effort to enjoy this tune and the vocal melody feels familiar and quite memorable. They follow up to the opening track with “I Heard Rumors” that is almost as good. The drums are tight and drive the song while the guitars avoid simplistic power chord progressions. It’s a creative concoction of sounds that up the ante of what to expect from The Gallop.

“Jump Ship” features multiple vocal harmonies while “Harsh Winds” contains a danceable groove I could see a live audience getting down to. The closer “Under The Light Of Night” is a solid yet short send off from the band. It brims with confidence and is an exteremly infectious tune that will leave you wanting more from the band. 

I hope The Gallop is excited because Tall Tale Tellers is a very enjoyable EP and is an improvement upon their previous release.
They seem to have found their sound and you can tell through the recordings that they are starting to feel really comfortable as a band.

 I expect to be hearing a lot more from them soon.
