Edmonton, Alberta native James Harapiak used to play in punk bands. Dawson Walker, on the other hand, lived the freelance artist life style until he joined Five on the Side as the lead guitarist. Eventually, brothers-in-law Walker and Harapiak created The Dice Cubes, a modern day rock band that honors classic rock and rockabilly.

The Dice Cubes channel the hearts and souls of artists like Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis with their high-energy tunes and catchy lyrics. Their Too Square to Roll album completely embodies the feel and groove of rockabilly music. Many of the album's songs tackle themes synonymous with this music, like teen rebellion and freedom to jive.

Despite the heavily themed album, Too Square to Roll does not feel outdated. The chosen stories remain universal and relevant for today's generation. Too Square to Roll's ability to honor the music of the ‘50s and ‘60s with cleverly composed beats and lyrics, makes this album memorable.

"Tiki Lights" beautifully captures the serenity of falling in love. The ukulele creates a breezy atmosphere, while the lyrics translate the fire of true love. "I'm With You" is another love song on the album. The song talks about familial love, especially the bonds between parents and children. Both of these tracks add to the lighter, more emotionally driven side to Too Square to Roll.

Some of the most energetic songs on the album are "I Was A Teenage Teenager," "This Old One" and "Apeman." "I Was A Teenage Teenager” and "This Old One" both blaze with energy as they describe the recklessness of being young and living life in the fast lane. "Apeman" highlights a new dance craze: the Apeman. It is in the style of many famous, or infamous, dances, like the stroll. It is the most fun song on Too Square to Roll.

Too Square to Roll creates a distinct tone and atmosphere that transports you; you feel like you're watching The Dice Cubes play at the local dance club. These songs grab you, make you dance and force you to sing-along. The Dice Cubes' Too Square to Roll's concept is brilliant. They expertly create an interesting, entertaining album that really captures one of the most defining eras of music.
