The Deadbeats is a three-piece band that recently released their debut EP entitled Wanderlust. Wanderlust is a bit scattered in terms of focus as it feels like a band that is still not completely sure of their own sound. That being said there are some really solid songs on here.

At their core this is a rock band that veers towards punk and dare I say grunge at times. The song are well delivered and well produced for the most part. That being said some of the performances could have been a little tighter. I noticed a number of times where the band gets behind half a beat or a kick drum comes in late. It’s innocuous most of the time but still a factor that separates the pros from everyone else. 

The band opens with “Watchout!!!” which is somewhere between surf rock and punk. It’s a fun ditty just over two minutes where the old school punk rock vocal harmonies work to the band's advantage. 

​The vibe of the first song is replaced by “Gotta Get Her,” which has an exceptional almost Kiss-esque chorus. It's catchy, fun and not much more than that. You can also hear hints of bands like Green Day and even early Talking Heads. 

Even though “Good To Be Me” was only a-minute-and-a-half long it may have been the highlight. The vocals are great. I loved the monotone delivery, which has a good amount of levity. The band rocks out with “Not Anymore” which tips its hat to a band like Nirvana at times while “Had To Leave” is a fun, upbeat closer.

I like this band. They have some skill and the songs are well written. If they can tighten up their performances and define their sound a bit more they should be well on their way.
