Night by The City that Sleeps is a slow moving and enigmatic EP. It is deep with a rustic energy that reels you into its dark underbelly and devours you. As you float around its crevasses, you discover its seams. You can feel its hardened metallic, iron cladden energy.

It feels heavy sunken, damp and dark. The music sounds like a fusion between The Black Keys and Chris Robinson at times. There is something here that I felt as if the band was trying to convey. The bluesy, fearless guitar riffs prompt feelings of bringing up the dark demons that lie beneath the subconscious.

The band opens with “Night”  which contains layers of emotion that are waiting to be uncovered. Total repercussion and reevaluation of what was once understood to be true are brought to the foreground. I can imagine the musicians bringing the darkness out of themselves and transmuting it through their art.

“Runaway” establishes a solid, smooth groove. The bass line drives this song and thought the vocals were soulful and dyanmic. Towards the end of the song the band picks up the pace and brings up the energy. They don’t go overboard but get the job done. “Gold” contains subtle electronic percussive effects which were efftetive. I was reminded of the band How To Dress Well. They close with an stripped down acoustic song entitled “Let You Go”

Each song has a tactic that feels wise, deep and profound. This is an EP that will shake darkness out of you and put it graciously into a rhythm and allow you to move through it without question. Recommended. ​
