Rosy Ray Sunshine is a breath of fresh air. Their music feels like it’s their own and while I could certainly make some comparisons the band has a distinct sound and that is why their release Daylight is a treat to listen to. 

Strick Harris (vocals/drums), Sebastian John (guitar) and Caleb Cromb (bass) are the brains behind the impressive operation and every member feels just as essential to the songs as the other. 

The band gets going with “Before The End” which you can tell right from the beginning is going to be good. The vocal style clashes with the melodies in a glorious crescendo and is also damn catchy. Did you catch the unique drumming style and the way they rock in their own off-kilter way?

The band continues to kick ass with “Wings Of Fire.” I enjoyed the various vocal styles and how the distorted bass and drums drove the song. The band won me over with unexpected changes that work and kept me on the edge of my chair. 

“Circling The Drain” continues with various vocal styles that work very well together. The energy is infectious in the song. You can hear elements of bands like Death from Above 1979, Queens of The Stone Age and even The Dismemberment Plan. The band gets more experimental in a good way on “Seed Of Life.” They combine arpeggiated synths with other effects, which creates a very atmospheric landscape. Around two-and-a-half minutes in, the band just starts tearing it up in their own way. 

Another highlight among consistently impressive songs was “The Lost Redeemer.” The jagged yet rounded song is hypnotic at points and the timing transitions are pure ear candy. Great groove. The band closes with one of the more straightforward rock songs entitled “After The End.”

Apparently Rosy Ray Sunshine was on hiatus for seven years. Let’s hope that doesn't happen again anytime soon. This band is one to look out for and their talent far surpasses the recognition they have received thus far.
