Milo from Venus is a four-piece band from Copenhagen, Denmark that recently released their first album entitled Where Do We Go From Here? Out of the many genres the band falls into pop punk, which seems to be the most over saturated and homogenous. Even though Milo From Venus falls into the pop punk/skate punk genre there are a number of things they are doing on Where Do We Go From Here? which makes it stand out.

First off the drumming reminds me of some of the punk rock that was coming out from bands like NOFX, Rancid and Pennywise. The band moves at an insanely fast BPM with metronome like drumming that I used to love hearing from the aforementioned bands. Besides that I really enjoyed the vocal harmonies this band has. The ferocious yells and screams are reminiscent of bands like Blood Brothers and Dropkick Murphys rather than teenage whining you hear from a copious amount of pop punk bands. It’s truly anthemic where you can picture hordes of bearded men drinking beers and hollering at the wind.

The opener “An Attempt At Being Honest” doesn’t waste any time getting intense and in your face. I loved how upfront the drums were in the mix, which really drove the song. It’s an intense adrenaline rush full of formidable changes. Get used to that type of energy because the band continues to deliver for the rest of the album.

“You're At One With Nothing” made me think of ‘90s style mosh pits. The song is like one big anthem and I am sure this song kills live. I’m not a huge fan of a sample in songs but I didn’t mind the spoken word in this song. It was brief and unexpected because you usually don’t hear that in songs of this style.

As the album progresses the songs don’t deviate in energy. My only minor issue is even though the songs are consistent I would have liked to hear a minor deviation at least once on the album. Maybe a slower song or a little bit more experimentation.

Overall, these guys have the skill and talent to excel in the scene. One word advice of to the band is make sure to keep your drummer happy because you will have a hard time finding another one that good.
