How I yearn for summer. I’m in Chicago in the dead of winter and I will basically be in hibernation until April. In order to get fight the cold I like listening to summertime pop albums that briefly mask the frigid reality I face everyday. I just found myself a new one entitled Somewhere Something  by Kressida. 

The band consisting of  Jason Middleton (Programming, Guitar, Bass, Vocals) Richard Roden (Guitar, Programming, Vocals) Marc Garza (Synth) and Ryan Gibbons (Bass) have a sound that lies somewhere between Phoenix and The Strokes. A bit of garage rock blended with reverb laced guitars that often find a nice groove that you can bob your head to.

The songs on Somewhere Something are so effortlessly easy to enjoy it’s hard  not enjoy the heck out of it. I dare you to put on the second song “Courage” and listen without popping a little smirk on that pretty face of yours. The songs are unpretentious fun that are a blast to listen to. It’s really that simple.

Somewhere Something was a complete DIY effort and have to say that I’m impressed. The songs are well recorded and well mixed. I was especially attracted to the way they implemented the vocals. There are some definite chorus like effects on the vocals but they were able to find a nice balance between his natural voice and the processing. Take for instance one of the highlights “New In New York”. The song is so slick and catchy. I could totally hear The Strokes playing this song expect there would be a lot more distortion on the guitar and Julian Casablancas voice.

“Never Carry Home” is another exceptional song.The song is illuminated with bright synths and guitars and when the chorus kicks in with that bass it’s on. It’s a certified chorus that will make you shake a bit and bust a groove.

I’m really loving their sound and don’t see why you wouldn’t either. Check this out.
