A couple of months ago we reviewed Event Horizon by Korfian. He is back with Postfire. He explains that it’s an introspection about fighting our toxic past and unsuitable roots in order to live for 'now' and move on to the future.
Although there are some thematic differences, some of the allure, musical elements and more from his previous release are there. Suffice it to say if you enjoyed Event Horizon you should have no problem with Postfire. The EP starts with “Big Bang” which begins with haunting, ghostly vocals. He softly mutters the word “boom” which then brings forward a heavy kick drum, arpeggiated synths and more atmosphere. The lyrics are big in scope and revolve around philosophy, mythology and cosmology. He sings, “It's not a big bang, boy / It’s not the end of the days / Sometimes the truth is hard / And we don't have what it takes.” “Past” is more like an interlude. It sounded like a religious ceremony of some sort. There is some beautiful instrumentation along with spoken word. The beat returns on “Handful of Dirt” which sounds like the Persian winds and mystical truths from the past and future are being concentrated into a flow musical dance worthy energy. “Love” is the next interlude. It felt like an extension of “Past.” In fact there is one more short interlude entitled “Roots.” “Fear Sequel” is perhaps the highlight . At the very least this song might be the most single worthy song in the batch. The vocal melody really stuck with me. “Paternal” is the last song and might be the most epic. There are additional vocal harmonies which sound like they may be religious or traditional. Postfire is an intense release that is grand in scope but is also pretty dance worthy. It reminded me of the Knights of Templar if they had a party. Overall, this is a release that continues to cement his unique sound.
