The band In Case It Rains comprised of Kevin Sitaras (lead vocals/guitar), Christian Orellana (bass) and Chris Hayes (drums) makes the anthemic pop punk that has been around since the early nineties. If you like bands like Fall Out Boy, Yellowcard, Taking Back Sunday and Simple Plan then this should be right up your alley. For better or worse their release I Swear I Thought It Through combines all the tropes you have come to expect from the genre and pours it on. From the production to the palm muted power chords In Case it Rains has certainly done their homework on what to expect from the genre.

This is a double-edged sword in a number of ways. You might appease people who are already fans of the genre but you are also going to have a hard time sticking out when there are thousands of bands barking out the same exact tree. At this point In Case It Rains hasn’t figured out what makes them stand out amongst the masses but there is no denying they can deliver a well-crafted, powerful song. Being able to hold their own against the bands in the big league is difficult but In Case it Rains is on a similar level to the bands I previously mentioned.

The band is a tight unit that plays in the pocket with metronome like precision. You can hear this on the first few seconds of “This Song Has A Really Long Title So You Know It's About Me.” The drummer impresses with a wicked fast kick drum while the distorted guitars fly about and the bass solidifies the foundation.

“Bombs Away” is an explosive song that has a trudging forward energy that only gets more intense as the song progresses while “For What It’s Worth” is a single worthy song that you could picture on the radio. The album continues with similar success on the remaining three songs.

The songs on I Swear I Thought It Through don’t differ much in terms of dynamics, feel and delivery. They ride a wave and don’t deviate much from the initial energy. I Swear I Thought It Through won’t convert anyone who wasn’t into the popular genre before but if nothing else will give fans of this style of pop punk more material to chew on.
