Heat Death of the Universe is a three-piece from Alberta, Canada that has been together for about for three years and recently released a three-song EP entitled EPonymous. From the artwork they have on their Reverbnation page I was thinking Iron Maiden. Low and behold their music isn’t too far off. The band has its roots in ‘70s metal as well as some ‘80s speed metal. Bands from the ‘70s like Highway Robbery and Motörhead are bands one can reference when talking about their sound. The band consisting of Wes Templeman (vocals/bass), Chad Superfly (guitar) and Scott Schmolke (drums) is the real deal. They deliver uncut, raw metal that any true fan of the genre will appreciate. The tone of the guitars is crunchy, classic metal, the snare sounds like a machine gun and the bass keeps the music together. The first track I listened to was “Heath Death,” which starts off as a barrage of double bass drums and squealing lead guitars. It’s an intense minute or so before that pull off the gas a tad so that Templeman can spit out a verse. Templeman has a good amount of grit to his voice that sounds somewhere between nasty and angry. The delivery is cathartic, visceral and pretty pissed off. “Heat Death” is a solid outing from the band and brings the pain. “Heisenburg” starts with a lone guitar being picked. Cymbals lightly enter and it doesn't take too long for the whole set to enter the picture. The BPM is much slower than “Heat Death” but the guitar notes often provide moments of dissonance. Templeman’s vocals are borderline demonic as they are covered in a copious amount of distortion. Does the song rock? Yeah - it does but it takes a little while to get there. “Father Said” is a solid track that features dueling vocal lines and thick coats of distortion. Another victory for the band. Heat Death of the Universe is a metal band and if you are a true fan of the genre this is a no brainer. Take a listen.

How can you justify the rating by that review? Should be 5/5
