In 2012 the experimental hip-hop group Glitch Mouth released an impressive debut entitled Blood Of Shogun. The album showcased original beats and lyrics that created a solid foundation for the trio. Their recent follow up Cure for the Common Flow has deeper cuts and enhanced production that solidifies the group’s initial release wasn’t a fluke. Glitch Mouth does an excellent job at creating a listening experience that has an ebb and flow. Cure for the Common Flow rides a wide range of emotion and feeling through the eight songs. Press play and let the music play in sequential order as it was intended.

The open up with what you can call an intro called “Daybreak.” It’s an instrumental track that feels thematic and kinetic. “How I Feel” is a soulful, downbeat song but it is aIso one of the most predictable and least experimental in the batch. That being said the delivery is effective and the hook is memorable. 

The music on “High Noon” is some of the most memorable and original on the EP. It pops and your head moves along to the beat as the group delivers inspired lyrics. The best hook on the EP belongs to ”Earth's Embrace.” I couldn’t resist the female vocals, hard hitting beats and string work.

The centerpiece of the album is “Understanding,” which also happens to be the darkest track. The lyrics revolve around regret and doubt. The vocalist spits lines like “Wish I was a better man than I am then again I don't even understand what I am, stuck again / Wish I was a better friend than I am then again I don't even understand what I am.”

There is no doubt at this point that Glitch Mouth has some skill. Cure for the Common Flow will appeal to most fans of hip-hop and even to some people who might not be. Overall, it’s a slightly experimental hip-hop album that is accessible to a wide array of people.
