The three-piece band Future Burnouts comprised of Dylan Metz, Ben Culbreath and Jordan Minor play jangly post-punk song that mixes in a dash ‘50s doo-wop on their release Greetings from Future Burnouts. Bands like Field Mice and Orange Juice come to mind when listening to the EP, which is under ten minutes in length. The songs remind me of songs you might hear if you attended a high school prom in the 1950's but had a bit more spice on it. 

The band starts off with the title track “Future Burnouts.” It’s a song that benefits from a fast BPM but you could picture it being played much slower as well. The guitar chords are basic but the bassist has a bit of fun jumping around a myriad of notes. It’s a fun song that feels impetuous and carefree. 

“Modern Life” has an equally as festive energy that is easy to enjoy. The band sounds happy to be there and I thought the drumming was top notch on this song. On top of that the song is pretty catchy as they sing about the passage of time and transitory nature of life. He sings, “Oh, I'm sick of preparations I've come to the realization that this modern life is passing me by.”

“Into You Heart” while it was may be not as effective as the first two tracks is still enjoyable. It still contains the visceral, immediate feel and whether you like it or not the lyrics, “Get me out of my head, Let me into your heart, Get me out of my head, And let me into your heart” are going to get stuck in your head. They close “Choosing to Burnout” which has Buzzcock/Clash type vibe that fits right into the other songs. It feels like it's over in a flash and acts like a burst of adrenaline. 

Greetings from Future Burnouts is a fun, unpretentious record. It is far from reinventing the wheel and feels like more of a tip of the hat to acts from the late ‘50s up to the early ‘70s.
